The Highlands Recreation Department runs several programs through out the year to foster activity and fitness for our youth and adults.

Kids on the Move is an after school drop - in program (September to June) that allows kids to participate in games, sports, exercise as well as arts & crafts.

Summer Kidfest is held July through August for children ages 6-14. Nutritional Breakfast and Lunch are served. There are sports, trips, games and crafts.

Adult Indoor Soccer runs from January through March at the HHRS Gym.

Adult Volleyball takes place during the Spring at the HHRS Gym.

Many other programs are offered, including Middle School and High School Teen Nights at the Community Center.

Highlands Summer Concert Series

The Borough of Highlands in conjunction with the Recreation Committee presents Highlands Summer Concert Series - Thursday Evenings at Veterans Park, Bay Avenue from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. The schedule will be: July 12th - Carl Gentry Band; July 26th - Random Test Reggae Band; August 9th - Jerry Topinka's G13 Band; and August 23rd - Moroccan Sheepherders. Bring your chairs and blankets to sit on.

Summer Kidfest

The Highlands Recreation Department's Summer Kidfest will take place from July 9th - August 17th, Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. at the Highlands Community Center. This program is for children ages 6-14 and will include a nutritious breakfast and lunch, games, sports, arts and crafts, swimming at the beach, weekly special events, field trips, and much more! REGISTRATION WILL BEGIN APRIL 30TH AT THE COMMUNITY CENTER, 22 SNUG HARBOR AVE., BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 9:30 A.M. - 4:30 P.M. You can also download an application by clicking the link below. Please note this year's fees: Highlands Resident: $35 for the first 2 children, $10 each additional child; Non-Resident: $50 for the first 2 children, $15 each additional child. AFTER JUNE 15TH - LATE FEES WILL BE CHARGED: Highlands Resident: $50 for the first 2 children, $15 each additional child; Non-Resident: $75 for the first 2 children, $15 each additional child. Cash and Checks will be accepted. Proof of residency will be required. NO APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER JULY 2nd. For further information, please call 732-872-1959.

Caterpillar Club

The Highlands Recreation Dept. will be offering a new program, the Caterpillar Club. This program is geared towards children ages 2-5 with a Parent / Guardian accompanying them and participating with them, and will include Reading a Story, Doing an Activity, and ending with a Song or Poem. It will take place May 22nd - June 21st, Tuesdays from 10:00 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. and Thursdays from 12:30 p.m. - 1:15 p.m. at the Highlands Community Center. New participants must register with the Recreation Dept. High School Teen Night

The Highlands / Atlantic Highlands Municipal Alliance and the Highlands Recreation Dept. will be having a High School Teen Night for grades 9-12 on Friday, June 29th from 7:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. at the Highlands Community Center.
