The Highlands Recreation Department runs several programs through out the year to foster activity and fitness for our youth and adults.

Kids on the Move is an after school drop - in program (September to June) that allows kids to participate in games, sports, exercise as well as arts & crafts.

Summer Kidfest is held July through August for children ages 6-14. Nutritional Breakfast and Lunch are served. There are sports, trips, games and crafts.

Adult Indoor Soccer runs from January through March at the HHRS Gym.

Adult Volleyball takes place during the Spring at the HHRS Gym.

Many other programs are offered, including Middle School and High School Teen Nights at the Community Center.

Easter Egg Hunt & Candy Bingo

The Highlands Recreation Dept. will be having their Easter Egg Hunt and Candy Bingo event on Saturday, April 6th at the Community Center Beach. The Egg Hunt will begin at 10:00 a.m., weather permitting, starting with the youngest age groups first. Please be prompt. The Egg Hunt Groups are as follows: Children Ages 2 and under; Ages 3 and 4; Ages 5 and 6; and Ages 7 and 8. Candy Bingo is for Children Ages 9-17 and will begin around 11:00 a.m. Prizes will be awarded and refreshments served at the Robert D. Wilson Memorial Community Center. Rain Date: If canceled on April 6th, the Egg Hunt will take place at 1:00 p.m. and the Bingo will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 7th.

Kids Creative Writing Class

Are you interested in being a writer? Come learn about the exciting world of creative writing as this class takes place through hands-on writing activities and games. This Creative Writing Class is for children in Grades 4 through 8 and will take place on Thursdays from April 4th - April 25th from 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. at the Community Center. Charles Hoffman, a writer, he has worked for various publications including  Parks and Rec Business Magazine.   Most recently, he has published  Time Well Spent  in which he spent a day inside New Jersey State Prison to learn about their chess program vs Princeton University called "Inmates vs. Ivies”.  He also wrote a camp programming article entitled  Day Camp Diligence   as well as an article on recreational programming for adults entitled  What About US?   He has recently taught creative writing and sports journalism classes for children in Red Bank.  

Dragonfly Club - Teen Theater Improv Class

The Dragonfly Club is a bi-monthly improv group for middle school and high school aged students. This group is geared for self expression while making connections and new friends. You can develop theater skills you are most interested in which may include acting, play writing, directing while we have fun practicing warm-ups, improv games, group exercises all while learning and growing. This class is for ages 12 -17 and will take place on the second and fourth Wednesdays starting April 10th and ending June 26th from 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. at the Community Center. Beginners Yoga for Kids Ages 8-14

The Recreation Dept. is offering Beginners Yoga for Kids ages 8-14 on Mondays from March 11th - April 15th from 5:15 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at the Community Center. Gentle Beginners Yoga for Adults

The Highlands Recreation Dept. is offering Gentle Beginners Yoga for Adults on Saturday mornings from March 16th - April 6th from 7:30 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. at the Community Center. High School Teen Nights

The Highlands / Atlantic Highlands Municipal Alliance & the Highlands Recreation Dept. will be having High School Teen Nights for grades 9 - 12 on Fridays, March 15th and March 22nd from 7:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. at the Community Center. Knitting Club

Join our Knitting Club - every Monday from March 4th - May 20th, 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the Robert D. Wilson Memorial Community Center. Free and Open to the Public - Everyone is Welcome! Zumba Gold

The Highlands Recreation Dept. will be offering a Zumba Gold class on March 5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th, Tuesday mornings from 11:00 a.m. - 11:45 a.m. at the Robert D. Wilson Memorial Community Center. The Fee is $40 per participant (4 sessions). Adult Indoor Soccer

The Recreation Dept. will be offering Adult Indoor Soccer on Wednesday evenings from February 6th - March 27th from 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm at the Henry Hudson Regional School Gym. Kids on the Move

Kids on the Move is a Drop-In Recreation Program for Highlands children ages 5 - 12. Join and participate in a variety of games, sports, arts and crafts, Lego challenges, sketching, yoga, music, dance, and much more! The program will take place at the Robert D. Wilson Memorial Community Center and run from September 24, 2018 - June 12, 2019, Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Registration forms are available at the Community Center or click the link below to download the form. All participants must register with the Recreation Department in order to attend. Proof of age is required for new participants.
