The Highlands Recreation Department runs several programs through out the year to foster activity and fitness for our youth and adults.

Kids on the Move is an after school drop- in program (September to June) that allows kids to participate in games, sports, exercise as well as arts & crafts.

Summer Kidfest is held July through August for Highlands children ages 6-14. Nutritional Breakfast and lunch are served. There are sports, trips, games and crafts.

Adult Indoor Soccer runs from December to March at the HHRS Gym.

Adult Volleyball takes place during the Spring at the HHRS Gym.

Many other programs are offered, including Middle School and High School Teen Nights at the Community Center.

Summer Basketball Clinics

The Hoop Clinic and Highlands Recreation is offering basketball clinics for boys and girls entering grades 3 through 8 at the Highlands Community Center Basketball Courts, 22 Snug Harbor Ave. The Boys Clinic will be July 10th - July 13th from 4:30 pm - 7:00 pm and / or August 14th - August 17th from 9:30 a.m. - 12 noon. The Girls Clinic will be July 24th - July 27th from 4:30 pm - 7:00 pm and / or August 21st - August 24th from 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon. The Fee is $75 per participant per week or $125 per participant for 2 weeks. Each participant will receive a Hoop Clinic reversible mesh basketball jersey. The Hoop Clinic is directed by Matt McCarthy who has over 15 years coaching experience at many different levels. Summer Building Bricks Club

The Recreation Dept. is offering a Summer Building Bricks Club for Highlands children ages 5-10 on Thursday afternoons starting July 13th - August 17th from 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm at the Community Center.  A parent or guardian must fill out and sign a Registration form. Forms are available at the Community Center or click the link below to print out. Please return forms to the Community Center in advance.

Movie on the Beach

The Borough of Highlands Recreation Dept. and the Recreation Committee presents a Movie on the Beach - MOANA on Friday, July 14th at Snug Harbor Beach. The movie will begin at approximately 8:00 pm. Admission and Popcorn is FREE. Kona Ice will be available for purchase starting at 6:45 pm. Please bring beach chairs or a blanket to sit on. No Alcohol permitted. Movie will be postponed to a later date in case of rain. All children under the age of 13 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult.

Summer Kidfest

The Highlands Recreation Department's Summer Kidfest will take place from July 5th - August 11th, Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. This program is for children ages 6-14 and will include a nutritious breakfast and lunch, games, sports, arts and crafts, swimming at the beach, weekly special events, field trips, and much more! Registration will begin May 15th at the Community Center, 22 Snug Harbor Ave. between the hours of 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. PLEASE NOTE NEW FEES THIS YEAR: Highlands Resident: $35 for the first 2 children, $10 each additional child; Non-Resident: $50 for the first 2 children, $15 each additional child. AFTER JUNE 15TH - LATE FEES WILL BE CHARGED: Highlands Resident: $50 for the first 2 children, $15 each additional child; Non-Resident: $75 for the first 2 children, $15 each additional child. Proof of residency will be required. NO APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER JUNE 28TH. For further information, please call 732-872-1959.

Teen Night

The Highlands / Atlantic Highlands Municipal Alliance & the Highlands Recreation Dept. will be having Teen Night on Friday, June 16th from 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm at the Community Center.
