The Highlands Recreation Department runs several programs through out the year to foster activity and fitness for our youth and adults.

Kids on the Move is an after school drop- in program (September to June) that allows kids to participate in games, sports, exercise as well as arts & crafts.

Summer Kidfest is held July through August for Highlands children ages 6-14. Nutritional Breakfast and lunch are served. There are sports, trips, games and crafts.

Adult Indoor Soccer runs from December to March at the HHRS Gym.

Adult Volleyball takes place during the Spring at the HHRS Gym.

Many other programs are offered, including Middle School and High School Teen Nights at the Community Center.

Halloween Parade and Costume Contest

The Highlands Recreation Dept. will be having its Halloween Parade and Costume Contest on Saturday, October 21st. The Parade will start promptly at 1:00 pm. Line-up will start at 12:45 pm in front of the old Borough Hall, 171 Bay Ave. Parade participants will march from there down to the Skate Park Parking Lot / Community Center Court Areas. Participants can then enter the Basketball and Tennis Courts to be judged in the Costume Contest. Categories for participation in the Costume Contest are as follows: Ages 3 and under; Ages 4, 5, & 6; Ages 7, 8, & 9; Ages 10 and up; and Themed Group of 3 or more. There will be prizes, refreshments, candy, a Bounce House, Animal Ballonist, and a Cotton Candy Machine. Come Join the Fun! In case of weather cancellation, the Rain Date will be Sunday, October 22nd at 2:00 pm.

Kids on the Move Program

The Highlands Recreation Dept. will be having its Kids on the Move Program starting on September 18th at the Robert D. Wilson Memorial Community Center from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. This Program is for Highlands children ages 5-12 and will include a variety of games, sports, arts & crafts, and lots of fun. Registration forms are available at the Community Center, 22 Snug Harbor Ave. or by clicking the link below. If you've attended the program in the past, you STILL need to re-register for the new school year. The Program will run until June 13, 2018.

High School Teen Night

The Highlands / Atlantic Highlands Municipal Alliance and the Highlands Recreation Dept. will be having a High School Teen Night for grades 9 - 12 on Friday, October 27th from 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm at the Community Center. Raising Resilient Teens Presentation

The Bayshore Family Success Center will be hosting a Presentation on Raising Resilient Teens on Thursday, October 19th at 5:00 pm at the Robert D. Wilson Memorial Community Center. This presentation will address the many stressors and obstacles teens face today, while helping parents and / or caregivers gain awareness and knowledge needed to tackle "difficult" topics.
