The Highlands Recreation Department runs several programs through out the year to foster activity and fitness for our youth and adults.

Kids on the Move is an after school drop- in program (September to June) that allows kids to participate in games, sports, exercise as well as arts & crafts.

Summer Kidfest is held July through August for Highlands children ages 6-14. Nutritional Breakfast and lunch are served. There are sports, trips, games and crafts.

Adult Indoor Soccer runs from December to March at the HHRS Gym.

Adult Volleyball takes place during the Spring at the HHRS Gym.

Many other programs are offered, including Middle School and High School Teen Nights at the Community Center.

Summer Basketball Clinics

The Hoop Clinic and Highlands Recreation is offering basketball clinics for boys and girls entering grades 3 through 8 at the Highlands Community Center Basketball Courts, 22 Snug Harbor Ave. The Boys Clinic will be August 14th - August 17th from 9:30 a.m. - 12 noon. The Girls Clinic will be August 21st - August 24th from 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon. The Fee is $75 per participant. Each participant will receive a Hoop Clinic reversible mesh basketball jersey. The Hoop Clinic is directed by Matt McCarthy who has over 15 years coaching experience at many different levels. Registration forms are available at or you can click the link below and print out. Life Line Screening

Life Line Screening will be at the Community Center on Tuesday, August 29th at 9:00 a.m. Pre-registration is required by calling 1-888-653-6450. Life Line Screenings go beyond regular checkups to look inside your arteries for signs of plaque build-up. The screenings being offered are Carotid Artery/Plaque; Heart Rhythm (Atrial Fibrillation); Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm; Peripheral Arterial Disease; and an Osteoporosis Risk Assessment. Summer Teen Nights

The Highlands / Atlantic Highlands Municipal Alliance & the Highlands Recreation Dept. will be having Teen Nights for grades 7-12 on Fridays, starting July 7th - August 25th (No Program on August 4th) from 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm at the Community Center.
